Education is my oxygen. I’m endlessly curious, and I live in a constant state of fascination. If you were to look on my bookshelf, you’d see an array of topics, including marketing, business, philosophy, history, psychology, physics, math, Latin, art and design. I truly love to learn, and I’ve passed this on to my children. Nothing excites me more than when their eyes light up after discovering something amazing. I cherish my family as well as my community and my colleagues, all of whom inspire me and teach me on a daily basis. I strive to do the same for them.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – Known as a principal leader in the advancement of civil rights, Dr. King used a strategy of nonviolent protest and civil disobedience. His famous “I Have a Dream” speech sparked the political movement that resulted in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. Since I was a little girl, I’ve admired independent people with high character and a strong moral compass. Dr. King summoned his virtue and bravery in the face of cruelty and injustice, putting himself on the line for what he knew was right, so he quickly comes to mind when I think of my role models.
